Commission Fusions of Mehera and Laurie Blum's Art and Paintings
In Mehera’s Own Words
My mother, Laurie Blum, sold her original paintings and also created hand-painted works on commission. As a girl, I would sit and paint beside her in our greenhouse. Now that she is no longer here in physical form, I feel inspired to continue that dialogue with her by transforming her paintings into new works that are a fusion of both of us.
I begin with the special process I learned from my mother, creating museum-quality giclée prints on 100% cotton rag using archival inks. Each work can then be resized according to the scale and setting of the commission.
From there, I paint by hand over the image, often using the very paints and brushes that belonged to my mother. At times I follow her original palette; in other works, such as the Butterflies pictured here, I allow the painting to evolve according to my own inspiration.
For select commissions, the work is taken one step further with dimensional hand-embroidered highlights. Silk threads, crystals, and other carefully chosen elements are applied selectively to areas of the painting, bringing texture, light, and an almost jewel-like quality to the work.
Every commission is created individually and may be customized in scale, palette, painting treatment, and level of embroidery.
Pricing is determined by scale, complexity, and embroidery treatment.
